Meet The Team

Katie Westerman

Growing up, I had a tendency toward tidiness and organization.  My bedroom needed to be picked up before I could sleep soundly at night and everything needed to be in its place.  My penchant for tidiness became severely disrupted once I was married and even more so once I had children.  A busy household with children and pets can get very chaotic very quickly.  How we manage that chaos can help us live a better quality of life so that we can focus on the things that really matter.

I believe our homes should be our haven and the place we find peace and comfort.  Homes overrun by clutter can cause unnecessary stress and can interfere with our productivity.  Organization doesn’t need to be fancy or expensive.  I believe in repurposing items in a home to make it a more functional space.  Organization doesn’t mean having to part with items that are sentimental or meaningful. It’s about having a special place for those items and eliminating the visual noise around us in order to live a more happy, healthy and fulfilling life.

It may sound cliché, but I love helping others.  I became a counselor over 20 years ago with that goal in mind.  Over the past 20 plus years, I have worked in the field of education in a variety of roles including counselor, substitute teacher, parent education coordinator, and educational consultant/speaker.  Looking for an opportunity to combine my counseling/teaching skills with my organizational skills, I began working as a residential organizer.  I have helped people organize closets, bedrooms, offices, pantries, basements, garages, playrooms, kitchens and other storage areas.  I enjoy providing clients with the tools and resources to help them maintain organized spaces.

I live in Oconomowoc with my husband and our four daughters ages 24, 21, 18 and 15  I am an avid volunteer in the schools and within our community.   When I am not working or organizing a space in my home, I enjoy watching my daughters play competitive sports, spending time with my family golfing or waterskiing, walking, writing and enjoying time with our 8 year old chocolate lab, Bogey.

I live in Hartland, WI with my husband of 27 years. Our daughters, now 19 and 23, grew up with clean-up songs and labeled baskets, things I thought would be fun for them while they cleaned up their toys. All of Barbie’s body parts, puzzle pieces, and doll clothes were easily accessible before playtime started again. Because when things go missing it’s never a good time.

I find an organized space to be a happy space. I believe that walking into your home should be a peaceful experience, not a stressful one - the world is stressful enough! I also believe you don’t have to spend a fortune to make your home look like a fortune. An affordable dining room table that is clutter-free will always look better than an expensive one that’s not.

To avoid unnecessary frustration, I have found it to be helpful for everything in the home to have its own home - whether that be a labeled basket, a designated shelf, a drawer, or a cubby. Knowing where to find that favorite sweatshirt, important piece of mail, or memory box is worth the extra seconds it takes to put them in their proper places.

Prior to my life as a stay-at-home mom, I was a pediatric nurse at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia. Recently, I worked at the Medical College of Wisconsin as a Clinical Research Assistant. I have enjoyed volunteering over the years in several areas: fundraisers, reading tutor, classroom assistant, library assistant, theater concessions, school events, and food banks. My favorite pastimes include spending time with my family and dog, walking outdoors, and practicing yoga.
